I was tagged by the wonderful sunshine human Danielle from The Chronicles of Danielle, you can read her post here!
This is my first ever book tag and I am excited 😀 hopefully its not too boring for you guys to read hahaha
What book has been on your shelf the longest?
Oooo this one is tricky! If we are going longest there but I have read it then it’s definitely the Harry Potter series. The copies I have are the original hardcovers, my mum got the first one for my older brother when it first came out and we all fell in love with the series.
What is your current read, your last read, and the book you’ll read next?
My current read is: How to Get a Love Life by Rosie Blake. My last read was New York Nights by CJ Duggan. My next read I think will either be: How not to fall in Love Actually by Catherine Bennetto OR Cold Fire by Kate Elliot – which I have actually started but just put on pause for other books haha
What book did everyone like, but you hated?
Hmmmm I don’t often read books I end up hating, I am pretty good at picking books I think I will enjoy BUT one book a lot of people love but I thought was just ok was The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater. It was ok but I really don’t see myself finishing the series.
What book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?
This probably has to go to all the classics I am obsessed with buying yet never may read! They are always so pretty and I tell myself I will read them one day.
What book are you saving for retirement?
I am saving a few series for my retirement haha mostly the Game of Thrones books – I want to read them but they are just such a time commitment! Maybe I will finally read all those classics I buy in my retirement too haha
Last page: read it first, or wait ’til the end?
Ok I am guilty of sometimes doing this! I usually do it if a love triangle is eluded too and I want to know ahead of time who they end up with so I don’t emotionally invest in the wrong person. I KNOW I AM A TERRIBLE PERSON. I just don’t want to waste my time if it’s going to annoy me at the end hahaha
Acknowledgement: waste of paper and ink, or interesting aside?
I LOVE the acknowledgements! I always read them and love to see all the people who go into helping a writer write!
Which book character would you switch places with?
I either want to be any kick ass female character from a fantasy series – preferably with super powers OR I want to be the lead from all my favourite romance/ romcom books and get swept off my feat.
Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life? (Place, time, person?)
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta will always remind me of my cousin! She doesn’t really like reading but she LOVED this book and so I loved that we got to share it. I also remember going camping with her and we had just purchased On The Jellicoe Road also by Melina Marchetta and we both wanted to read it so she read it out load by torch light as night time. It was amazing!
Name a book that you acquired in an interesting way.
This one is hard! All I can think of at this time is buying some books in Canada in Chapters. I love that I got to buy books overseas while I was traveling and Chapters was AMAZING!
Have you ever given a book away for a special reason to a special person?
At the moment I am obsessed with buying books for my cousins (the same one from Q9) baby! He is so cute and it’s my first time being an Aunty so book buying extreme is happening! I just want him to have all my favourite books I had as a kid too!
Which book has been with you most places?
Tamora Pierce! And anything by her haha Most specifically her Song of the Lioness Quartet and her Immortals Quartet series – I have taken them to and from Uni every semester and then also up to Melbourne when I moved here. They will always be my favourite two series.
Alanna the First Adventure has been with me all the way to Africa! You can read a bit more about that in My Beginning as a Reader Post.
Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad two years later?
Look I haven’t tried to read any of them again because they were mostly horrid. The only one I liked was Looking For Alibrandi because it’s amazing and Marchetta is my queen.
Used or brand new?
Both! Nothing beats a fresh new book but I also love a used book, you can tell it’s been very loved.
Have you ever read a Dan Brown book?
Nope! I have seen The DaVinci Code but I really don’t ever see myself reading any of his books.
Have you ever seen a movie you liked more than the book?
Ummmmmmm I am usually pretty positive when it comes to adaptations I try to look for the best in them haha BUT I pretty much always end up loving the book more. So some good adaptations I think are – The Book Thief, The Fault in Our Stars, Outlander etc.
Have you ever read a book that’s made you hungry, cookbooks included?
Cookbooks! I love Jamie Oliver and his recipes always make me hungry!
Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?
I am easily influenced when it comes to books so I will pretty much listen to all advice and if I am vaguely interested and someone else loves it I will get hyped to read it! Other than that my housemate and I have pretty similar taste so I always trust her book judgment.
Is there a book out of your comfort zone (e.g., outside your usual reading genre) that you ended up loving?
I am pretty good at trying new genres but one I never thought I would get so into is celebrity books, Yes Please by Amy Poehler I absolutely loved! Another I really want to read are the ones by Mindy Kaling.
Well there you go! Congrats to you if you made it to the end, you deserve to always find ripe avocados on sale.
Until next time my book loves.
